Does therapy work for everyone?
Therapy doesn't have a one-size-fits-all answer. It's most effective when the individual is open to the process and is taking a holistic approach that nurtures mental, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual aspects of wellbeing. The client /counselor relationship is an extremely important part of what makes therapy successful. Sometimes, individuals might need to try a few therapists before finding the right match. At La Luz, we value and seek honest feedback about your sessions to continue to help our therapist grow and hone their therapeutic skills.
5
How long does therapy take?
The duration varies. Some individuals might find short-term therapy (a few sessions) beneficial, while others might engage in long-term therapy for years. Others may come in and out of therapy as they flow with life’s natural ups and downs. Many find that self-discovery, in all its forms, is a lifelong process.
6
Can I afford therapy?
There are various payment options at La Luz. We offer a 10% off self-pay discount when you purchase a package of 4 sessions. We will happily provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Talk to us about our sliding scale if you cannot afford the full fee, we are happy to work with you to review options and find a solution.
7
Can I do therapy online?
Yes, teletherapy or online therapy has become increasingly popular, especially with the technological advancements and the need for remote services. We love this aspect of our practice as it allows us to reach our fellow New Mexicans near and far! La Luz uses a secure, HIPAA compliant video platform that you will log into for sessions. We recommend you find a quiet and private setting with a secure internet connection to get the most out of your session.
8
Is everything I say in therapy confidential?
Generally, yes. However, therapists are mandated reporters, which means if they believe you’re at risk of harming yourself or others, or if they learn of abuse, they may be required to report it. Also, if you are involved in any legal matters, a judge can subpoena your records to potentially be used in litigation.
